Vasilis X. Spiliotopoulos speaks to ANA-MPA about his book "Stowaway of a Life"
A dialectical relationship with cancer was developed through the writing of his historical novel “Stowaway of a Life”, says Vasilis X. Spiliotopoulos, who, as he confides to ANA-MPA, “With a touch of exaggeration, my illnesses evolved into a brilliant spotlight that illuminated, even slightly more, ‘life itself’.
He further emphasizes: “Stowaway of a Life, in a certain sense and to a great extent, is the genuine expression of my dialectic with cancer — in short, a weighing of life.”
Regarding the choice of the title, he explains: “The title marks the journey of a person seeking to interpret and navigate life and the world by overcoming the barriers of origin, as well as of social and intellectual reality.”
He also points out: “The narrative attempts to pierce through the backbone of the social reality of an era in which established norms were shaken by the brutal delegitimization of their rational foundations. They were dethroned into symbols of faded practices, ending up as fossils of the past. Through his narration, the protagonist expresses the contradictions, dilemmas, and disappointments he faces — but also his unwavering commitment to his moral values, which he strives to uphold as fundamental elements of his stance and journey.”
What follows is a deeply personal interview — a confession of thoughts and soul — by the author to ANA-MPA:

The entrepreneur and legal expert Vasilis Spiliotopoulos gives his first interview about his debut book — a historical novel titled Stowaway of a Life (Kapa Publishing, 2025).
It is a magnificent work of art: born from genuine intellectual labor and an attempt to approach truth and the infinite. Humanism in its purest form. The author’s psyche, outlook, communication, and dedication of his life are intertwined with this book, in an era driven by utilitarianism where values are measured only by numbers.

"A Stowaway of Life": The book by Vasilis Spiliotopoulos was, for him, the breath of a cancer patient—a manifestation of the longing for life.
Full of emotion and turbulent twists, the narrative of Vasilis Spiliotopoulos’s new book follows the historical developments leading up to World War I and the outbreak of the Russian Revolution — a period that has been the subject of his study and extensive research for many years. The novel is dedicated to all cancer patients and those who have fought or are still fighting for their lives. The author himself has been diagnosed three times with primary cancers and donates the majority of the proceeds from the book sales to “ELPIDA,” the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer.
